Megadeth Live In Singapore !!!

26th Oct 2007 is the date.
Megadeth is the band.
United Abominations Tour Of Duty 2007 is the event.
And what a show it was !!! I have been waiting for this day since 1995 !!! And it was fitting that the first ever heavy metal act that I went to is my favourite band, Megadeth !!!
Met up with James at City Hall MRT and then proceeded to Fort Canning Park. Upon reaching the area, I could already hear the music blaring away from the speakers. And as you approach the venue, this is what greets you.

The big poster hanging on top of the entrance
We listened to alot of heavy metal songs while waiting eagerly for the concert to kick off. This is the first time that Megadeth is performing here in Singapore and everyone was excited. The atmosphere was electrifying. Around 9pm, Megadeth kicked off the concert with a new song, Sleepwalker from their new album, United Abominations amidst the chants of Megadeth ! Megadeth ! Megadeth ! We went wild, and even more wild when Dave Mustaine starts his exceptionally speedy fingering and shredding on the guitar fret board. Ok...the crowd went wild, including me, but James was as composed as ever...hahahaha.
Glen Drover was good on the guitars. Nailed every song perfectly the way Marty Friedman played last time. But Glen is Glen and Marty is Marty. They both have their own styles. James LoMenzo, the bassist, was the most active. Running around the whole stage during the whole concert, inciting the crowd to headbang to the songs. Shawn Drover's double pedals were perfect that night, and his thundering bass drums really contributes alot to the furious headbanging by the crowd.
The 3500 strong crowd sang along to every song. Including me. 18 songs played, including my personal favourite, In My Darkest Hour. When Dave Mustaine, the main man, said "I knew a little French", the crowd went wild, cos we know he will be singing A Tout Le Monde and during the chorus, Dave Mustaine was not singing, but looking at us sing ! And when I heard the bass drums and the familiar bass lines of Peace Sells, my first reaction was to raise up both my hands doing the "Devil's Horn" sign and go headbanging !!! Ok...almost every song I was doing that, but Peace Sells is really exceptional.
And they played She Wolf, which was not played at the Thailand and Jakarta concerts.
They played Holy Wars, The Punishment's Due during the encore. In case you dunno, that's 1 song. Not 2. During the middle of the song, they suddenly changed to another song, Mechanix, then revert back the Holy Wars. The solos by Dave Mustaine and Glen Drover was amazing !
Here's some of the things Dave Mustaine said that night.
"Good Evening, alrite it is such a priviledge to finally be here playing for you tonite. When we're flying in this morning I was looking out the window of the airplane, and I was looking at the ground and I was looking at the buildings, I was looking at everything here and I thought fuck this is a beautiful country. You know Megadeth is one of those bands that will play anywhere so if the promoters will bring us there and we've played some places that are pretty much disaster areas. Coming in to town today, I want to tell you something, I feel like I am right at home. I do want to say one thing before we go any further, for those of you that have heard we're going to cancel because of the fires thats in California, in San Diego. The fire's thats in San Diego, my home, James's father home, is in San Diego. The fires are ok and as you can tell with me standing here in front of you, we did not cancel. And one thing you got to know about me, and about Megadeth, is its going to take more than my house burning to the ground, to ever cancel for you..."
"How many of you here have seen Megadeth live and where? As u can see, I'm real, and my love for you is real. Man, I wish for one second that you can stand here with me and see how beautiful you look. And I want to tell you something, so far since we left United States and came over here, we played Thailand and Indonesia, and we did not play She Wolf for them so you got an extra song. And I was talking to the boys backstage and I said - you know what, I got a feeling this could be one of those nights and we probably will play some extra songs tonight, ( cue - mega cheers from the audience ) ......... and of course they say no. ( cue - mega depression from the same audience LOL! )I'm just kidding, so I dont want to fuck around anymore, I dont talk a lot in concert because I dont think you pay to comr here for this concert and listen to me talk. I think musicians who stand up here and waste your time by talking are fucking losers. So we're going to play as much as we can right now. We got about six more songs and then its off to the hospital "
"I was asking the people how to say Thank you in Singapore language and they told me u guys know English. So, Thank You ! Oh, by the way, I knew a little French." This is what he said before he sang A Tout Le Monde. Nicely sets the stage to sing the song.
Bought the United Abominations Tour Of Duty 2007 T-shirt and a poster.
Ok...not gonna bore you on what I did that day. Just look at the pictures !!!

Too bad there are very few pictures of the drummer, Shawn Drover.
By the end of the concert, almost everyone was soaking wet. No...it did not rain. Wet cos everyone was sweating due to the headbanging along to all the songs. If they come again to Singapore, I will definitely go again. And I think the other 3500 people who was there that night would agree with me.
As someone said, God is not up there, but down here on earth and enjoys playing thrash/speed metal !!!
