Okay..that's part 1 of this week's special. Now comes part 2.
Metal : A Headbanger's Journey
This is a documentary about a guy called Sam who goes in search of the true meaning of heavy metal music. It's a good show, and I recommend this to any one interested. Here's some of the quotes taken from the show, and they echo exactly what I think about heavy metal.
"Black means danger, unknown, but it also means freedom, where it's outside of the light and day and you can do anything you wanted to without anyone watching you."
On Pop music. "Talent isn't always enough for the masses, you have to be attractive. It's annoying."
"With heavy metal, it doesn't matter if the microphone is there or not, but you still gotta sound like you're projecting your voice to the back of the hall. It's a tremendous effort."
"Metal music...metal fans like it forever. They don't get sick of it. Not like the regular pop listener."
"87% of Norway's population belongs to the Church of Norway, and yet their biggest cultural export is Satanic Black Metal."
"The most powerful predictor of whether someone will commit suicide is the feeling of helplessness. Nobody listens to heavy metal in order to feel helpless. They listen to heavy metal to feel empowered and feel connected to people. "
"I rather have the kids in the pits sweating it out the problems that they have to deal with, then to have them hurt other people."
"Why is heavy metal consistenly being stereotyped, condemned and dismissed? It's because metal confronts what we rather ignore, it celebrates what we've often deny and it indulges in what we fear most. And that is why metal is always a culture of outsiders."
"It doesn't judge me, it doesn't criticise me, it's just always there for me."
"If it keeps kids alive, if it gives them hope, if it gives them a place to belong, if it gives them a sense of transcendance, then it's a spiritual force, it's a pipeline to guide."
"You either feel it, or you don't. If heavy metal doesn't give you that overwhelming surge of power and make the hair stand on the back of your neck, you might never get it. But it's ok. We are doing just fine without you."
Some people may not like heavy metal, and some even blamed metal music for suicides and mass murders just because the guy who commits suicide or the murder listens to heavy metal. People are old enough to differentiate what's right and wrong. People only push the blame on heavy metal when something wrong...DAMN THOSE PEOPLE !!!
Ok...enough of ranting...
